In 1909 David A. Asp started the D.A. Asp Undertaking Parlor and Picture Framing establishment at 225 Railroad Street.

On June 1, 1912 David Asp occupied the whole first floor of the Mickelson Building.

March 15, 1913 David Asp, aquired the undertaking business of Waters & Erickson.  Combining the two stock of goods in the Nelson Street quarters of Waters & Erickson.  Mr. Asp associated with him, his brother Carl under the firm name of D.A. Asp & Company.  Berger Erickson moved to Iron Mountain and engage in the undertaking business on his own account.

On March 15, 1919 Carl Asp passed away.

In 1937 David's son D. Carrol Asp joined his father at the funeral home.

On February 15, 1940 David Asp passed away, he was 52 years old. His son D. Carrol Asp continued the funeral home business.

In 1945-46 David's son Robert Asp joined the funeral home with his brother, D. Carrol Asp, and the business became known as the D.A. Asp Memorial Funeral Home.

In 1978 Melvin W. Miner, graduate of Wayne State University School of Mortuary Science in 1968, joined with Robert Asp and D. Carrol Asp retired.

In 1981 Robert Asp retired. Mel Miner continued the business, as sole proprietor.

In 1983 the funeral home name changed to the Miner Funeral Home.

On June 28, 1985 Robert Asp passed away, he was 63 years old.

A major remodeling project of the Miner Funeral Home took place during 1992-1993.

On July 13, 1994 Steven T. Ortman, graduate of Wayne State University, Bachelor of Mortuary Science 1992, joined Mel Miner at the Miner Funeral Home.

On July 31, 2002 D. Carrol Asp passed away, he was 87 years old.

In May 2004 Mel Miner retired and Steve Ortman purchased the funeral home and continued the business, as sole proprietor.

In May 2004 the funeral home name changed to the Miner-Ortman Funeral Home.

As of 2009 the Miner-Ortman Funeral Home celebrates 100 years of business in Norway, Michigan.  Making us only the second business in Norway to achieve that goal.

In June 2009 in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the funeral home, we changed the name to Ortman Funeral Home.
