ELIZABETH GRONOWSKI

NORWAY- Elizabeth “Betty” Gronowski age 79 of Norway, was called to the Lord, after a short battle with cancer, Monday, December 28, 2009 at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford, MI.

She was born on December 2, 1930 in Norway, the daughter of the late Alphons and Isabel (Duby) Cologna.

Betty graduated from Norway High School in 1948.

She married Edwin J. Gronowski on March 31, 1951 in Lisbon, WI. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1997.

Betty held many jobs including working at the Rialto and as an assistant for Dr. Reath for many years.

She raised her family in Vulcan and volunteered for many years at St. Vincent DePaul, Holy Spirit School, Dickinson Co. Cancer Unit and the V.A. Medical Center.

Betty enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church, and was known by all to be a kind, humble and gentle soul. She was also a late blooming prolific artist, who taught art classes for the 4-H and passed on her talents to several grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters Laura (Mike) Allen of Colorado Springs, CO., Kathy Hale of Muskegon, Diane (Matt) Morrissey of Lena, WI., Mary (Dave) Mason of Norway and Sue (Jeff) Boulden of Norway; grandchildren David Gronowski, Jr., Melisa Gronowski, Michelle (Shawn) Gehring, Elizabeth and Nick Allen, Dan, Jennifer, Corey, Rob and Joe Hale, Cullen and Jacob Morrissey, David Mason, Heather and Kevin Evosevich, Abbie, Sarah, Hannah and Joshua Boulden; 3 great grandchildren; brothers James (Barbara) Cologna of Powers and Robert (Debbie) Cologna of Norway; sister-in-law Marion Cologna of Kenosha, WI; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son David Gronowski and brother Larry Cologna.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 31 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church with Fr. James Roetzer, presiding.

Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name.
