Dennis Peterson

NORWAY- Dennis Charles Peterson age 75 of Norway, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI. Dennis was born on June 18, 1947 in Norway, the son of the late Omar and Eleanore (Bjornson) Peterson. He graduated from Norway High School class of 1965. He was drafted into the Army on July 6, 1966 where he served in Vietnam until July 5, 1968. Dennis married Beth Ann Corrigan on June 14, 1969 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Spalding, Michigan. They spent 51 wonderful years together before she preceded him in death on March 29, 2021. Dennis worked at the Niagara Paper Mill for 32 years until his retirement. He worked at the City of Norway as a Fireman, also as a Wildfire Keyman for the Department of Natural Resources for over 40 years. He was a member of the Thomas St. Onge Chapter Vietnam Veterans #571 in Hermansville, Norvulet VFW Post #4581 and the Hall-Dewinter Post #145 American Legion in Norway. He was passionate about helping other veterans access needed services and his family was extremely important to him. Dennis is survived by his son Dennis (Mary) Peterson; daughter Sarah (Mark) Thaler; granddaughters Kassandra (Andrew) Rajala, Patricia (David) Woller; grandsons Michael Peterson and Matthew Peterson; great-grandchildren Aubree Peterson, Elloise Rajala and one due in August; brother Jack Peterson; sister Luanne (Gary Ebrecht) Peterson; mother-in-law Jeanne Corrigan; brothers-in-law Ivan Hammerberg, Dick (Linda) Corrigan, Boyd (Sue) Corrigan, Bill (Shar) Corrigan, Don (Janet) Corrigan and Tom (Geri) Corrigan; sisters-in-law Joyce (Leo) Labre and Ruth Blahnik; numerous nieces and nephews; and cousin who was like a brother Michael (Judy) Dapoz. Dennis was proceeded in death by sisters-in-law Yvonne Peterson, Patricia Lemerand and Barbara Hammerberg; brother-in-law Gordon Lemerand; nephews Travis Corrigan and Thomas Corrigan Jr. Family will greet friends on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Norway. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Marty Flynn officiating. The family requests that flowers are omitted at this time. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery. Family would like to say Thank you to the staff and members of the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center for all their kindness.
