GEORGE MENARD NORWAY- George Menard age 70 of Norway, died Friday, January 21, 2005 at his home in Norway, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 8, 1934 in Norway, the son of the late Phileas and Louise (Prunell) Menard. George was a lifelong resident of Norway, and worked for 39 years at Northland Associated Grocers, retiring in 1990. St. Mary Roman Catholic Church was his parish for his entire life and he could be found at 8:00 Mass every Sunday. He devoted his life to raising his children and caring for his elderly brothers and sister. His grandchildren were the joy of his days and he spent many hours caring for and enjoying them. Golf, Cub’s games, and Monday morning coffee hours with other Northland retirees were favorite pastimes, but to him nothing was better than spending the day at his beloved Camp Menard. All his old friends and newer ones from the Foster City/Hardwood area knew his hospitality and genuineness. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Mary Jean; five children, Mary Jo (Don) Vitton of Kingsford, Nancy Menard of Brandon, FL., Michael (Carol) Menard of Lewisburg, KY., Carol (Eric) Alexanderson of Midland, GA., and Tom (Maureen) Menard of Norway. Grandchildren included Jon (Liz), Leslie (Mindi), and Andrew (Audra) Lorenzoni; Jeremy Menard, Adam Day; Jamie Menard, Angela (Michael) Cotter; Seth and Serene Alexanderson; Chelsea, Dan and Ryan Menard. Also surviving are eleven great grandchildren- Alex, Olivia, Grace, Ella, Alaine, Isaac, Ashley, Alexis, Avery, Ashlynn, and Annabella. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one very special sister. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Miner-Ortman Funeral Home in Norway. Parish Prayers will be at 6 p.m. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, January 25 at 9:30 a.m. at the Miner-Ortman Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Norway, with Rev. Fr. Mark McQuesten officiating with Deacon Ronald LeMire. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery. George’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
