Jack Via

JACK VIA NORWAY- Jack E. Via age 72 of Norway, died Friday, April 8 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was born on November 4, 1932 in Chicago, IL., the son of the late Jack and Rose (Fischer) Via, Sr. As an infant his family moved to Indianapolis, IN. He attended the Indianapolis School System Public School No. 10 and Arsenal Tech High School. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on December 1951 and was honorably discharged December 1955 with the Rank of Sergeant. He married Sheila M. Peterson on February 7, 1953 at the Presbyterian Church in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Jack worked for Northland Associate Grocers Inc. for more than 35 years, retiring on July 31, 1991. He enjoyed Traveling and was an avid Sports Fan. He had many Hobbies, loved playing cards and having coffee with friends. Jack and his wife Sheila wintered in Tucson, Arizona for many years. Jack was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local #328 in Escanaba, for 35 years. A life member of Elks Lodge #552 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Member of Loyal Order of Moose #1474 in Norway. Served as Lodge Governor from 1983 till 1985. Served in other offices of the Lodge for many years. He received a Life Fellowship Degree in 1985. Received “This is your Night Award” 1987. Norway Moose of the year 1995, Norway Moose Legionnaire of the Year 1995. Michigan Moose Association Community Service Award 1994. He was also a member of the Ducks Unlimited, ABC Bowling Congress, Oak Crest Golf Course. Jack is survived by his wife Sheila; daughters Jackie (Dr. Timothy) Nelson of Hancock and Lesley Querio of Vulcan; five grandchildren Amber, Angela and Adam Nelson of Hancock, Josh and Jarred Querio of Vulcan; brother Donald (Margie) Via of Indianapolis, IN; sisters Ethel Taylor and Betty (Tom) Reese of Indianapolis, IN., Doris (James) Hall of Van Nays, CA., Ruth (Rob) Rogge of Palmdale, CA., Rose (Butch) Costa of Perris, CA., Sandy Via of Costa Masa, CA., and Sue (Al) Davis of Mango, FL; several wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother David Via and sister Shirley Brown. Family will greet friends on Tuesday, April 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Miner-Ortman Funeral Home in Norway. Loyal Order of Moose #1474 Service will be at 6:30 p.m. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at the Miner-Ortman Funeral Home, with Rev. James Danielson, pastor of Evangelical Covenant Church officiating. Interment will be held at the Norway Township Cemetery.
