Johanna Cuggino

NORWAY- Our loving mom, Johanna Cuggino age 87 of Norway, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at Marshfield Medical Center – Dickinson in Iron Mountain, MI. She was born on March 12, 1935 in Kingsford, the daughter of the late William and Emma (Niles) Dykstra. She grew up in Kingsford (Breitung), the youngest of 10 children. Before starting a working career, she married Walter Lange, former husband and father to her children. They were divorced at the time of his passing in 1978. She worked at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain for more than 30 years, while raising her children. She started out in the laundry, went back to school to obtain her high school diploma and worked her way up through housekeeping, clothing and retired as a travel clerk in 1991. Johanna met and married Steven Cuggino in 1985, while working at the VA. They were married for 36 loving years before he preceded her in death in April of 2021. They were longtime members of the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain, where she helped teach Sunday School to the young children. As avid football fans, they looked forward to and watched all of the games together throughout the seasons. For many years, they appreciated and enjoyed the fellowship of the Norway-Vulcan Senior Center. She enjoyed traveling and took many a trip (big and small), with Steve and each of her daughters. She especially loved her trips to Arizona to visit her son Clint and the many excursions they went on together. Mom was a caring, kind, supportive and strong woman. Although she endured and navigated some hardships earlier in life, she loved those around her while maintaining her explorer spirit. She was always up for another adventure, a good meal, a heartfelt laugh, and a warm hug. She will be missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her. Johanna is survived by her daughters Amy Jo DeDecker of Norway and Tina (Rick) Trepanier of Iron Mountain; her son Clinton (Amanda) Lange of Clarkdale, AZ; grandchildren Ryan (Nichole) DeDecker, Phillip (Jenni) DeDecker, Chase (Megan) Freeman and Haley Lange; great grandchildren Rowen and JackPine DeDecker, Nora and Jaxon Freeman; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Johanna was preceded in death by her husband and siblings. Family will greet friends in celebration of her life on Saturday, November 5 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway. A memorial service will follow at with Rev. Jim Danielson, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway, officiating.
