LaRayne Jeanette Chartier

NORWAY- LaRayne J. Chartier age 93 of Norway, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford, MI. She was born on July 23, 1925 in Norway, the daughter of the late Anton and Katherine (Jackomino) Canavera. LaRayne graduated from Norway High School. She married Arthur Chartier, Jr. on January 26, 1946 in St. Mary’s Church in Norway. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2013. LaRayne was a stay at home mother raising her four children. After they were grown, she worked at Vertin’s Department Store for a short time. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Norway. LaRayne and Art liked to travel and took several trips to warm climate places. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and went to Canada, Florida and many other areas. As they got older they camped at Lake Antoine Park from Memorial Day weekend to the middle of August. Lake Antoine was a gathering place for family especially on Sunday when the family gathered for dinner while they camped. No matter how warm it was, there was always a campfire. LaRayne is survived by her four children Diane (Gilbert) Koski of Norway, Linda (David) Beaster of Crystal Falls, Karen (Bruce Stuck) Schorman of Quinnesec and David (Gail) Chartier of Niagara; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marvin and Kathy Chartier of Norway and Donald and Darlene Chartier of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; brother Steven Canavera; sister Pauline Garrett; granddaughter Michelle Lee Schorman; parents Anton and Katherine; father and mother-in-law Arthur Sr. and Theresa; and brother and sister-in-law Clyde and Peggy Chartier. Family will greet friends on Friday, November 2 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Norway. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Norway. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery. The family would like to thank Evergreen Assisted Living/Memory Care for the loving and wonderful care while she was a resident. There are too many people to mention, but we want you to know that we appreciate all that you have done for Mom.
