Margaret A. Turner

Margaret A. Turner Indian River, MI – Margaret A. Turner age 88 of Indian River, formerly of Hamilton Lakes, died Saturday, August 8, 2009. She was born Margaret Anne Campbell on November 5, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of Milton and Emma Grace “Gracie” (Anthony) Campbell. Margaret “Anne” attended school in Elmhurst, Illinois. She went to college there and met Charles M. Turner. The couple was married October 5, 1941 in Elmhurst IL. When Charles returned from the South Pacific after serving as a naval supply officer on the destroyer Nicholas II, he secured a hospital job in the Veteran’s Administration and Anne moved more than a dozen times as Charles advanced in hospital administration. She held a number of temporary administrative assistant positions in the early years, one position for a number of years at Syracuse University, but devoted herself primarily to the care of her husband and three children, Thomas, Lawrence and Marian. Anne and Charlie loved remodeling and living at their retirement home at Lake Mary, which was the most permanent home they ever had. Every morning they went to a different locale for breakfast and took scenic excursions around the area discovering the UP’s beauty. Anne was talented and creative on the piano, designed colorful women’s hats, enjoyed watercolor painting, took up and perfected porcelain doll‐making, designing and sewing outfits for each doll, and devoted a large part of her day to the care and layout of her flower gardens which were admired by many. Anne is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Migaud Turner of Indian River MI; son, Thomas Charles (Francie) Turner of Morris, MN and their children, Gregory (Jennifer) Turner of Steinbach, Manitoba, Elizabeth (Nick) Larrabee of Morris MN and Anthony Turner of Minneapolis; son Lawrence (Kim) Turner of Brookfield WI and their children, Jennifer (Mustapha) Omar of Minneapolis, Julie Turner of Wisconsin, Jessica (Andrew Carmichael) Turner of Maryland and Andrew Turner; and daughter, Marian (Frank) Holes of Indian River, MI and their children, Frank (Michelle) Holes of Indian River, Margaret (Mike) Bowe of East Jordan and Michael (Jennifer) Holes of Lexington, MI. Also five great grandchildren; Lily Krahn, James and Sarah Holes, and Nathalie Holes and Preston Schlke. Anne was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Milton “Bussie” Campbell, Jr. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 13 at 2 p.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home with Pastor James Britt, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
