Richard Stanek

KINGSFORD- Richard James Stanek age 80 of Kingsford, died Friday, February 10, 2023 at Caraton Commons Assisted Living Community in DePere, WI. He was born on October 6, 1942 in Milwaukee, WI., the son of the late Stanley and Victoria (Rysiewicz) Stanek. Richard graduated from Vulcan High School in 1961 and started working at Lake Shore, then the City of Norway and Northland Grocers until they closed. He finished his working career at the First National Bank in Iron Mountain. He married Judith Sleik on January 17, 1994 in Las Vegas, NV. He loved music and was a lifelong accordion player. During his lifetime he was in many bands, played for many occasions and for thousands of people. Richie enjoyed feeding the birds, rabbits and deer in his yard, going to his grandkids concerts and watching their sporting events. Richie was a very funny guy and loved everyone. Anytime you would see him he always had a smile on his face. He will be missed. Richard is survived by his wife Judith; sons Mark (Annette) Stanek, Ron (Mary McNamara) Stanek, Dan (Christina) Stanek and Scott Stanek; step sons Mark (Amy Carpenter) Sleik, and David (Sandy Fontecchio) Sleik; step daughters Wendy (Dino Watts) Sleik and Sherry (Brooke) Huettl; grandchildren Sarah (John) Kane, Matthew, Austin, Samuel, Ryan and Alex Stanek, Vanessa (Jeff) Mitchell, Erica (Tim) Coda, Dustin and Amanda Sleik, Tony (Shannon) Sleik, Melissa (Steve Solberg) Wilson, Sydney (Becky Wolverton) Lobner and Jacob (Olivia Oliver) Lobner; great grandchildren Jamison and August, Kaelyn, Jace, Jaxon, David, Paige, Eleanor, Oliver and Malia; special friends Edith Sleik, Melissa Sleik, Sarah Recla and Brian Lobner; several brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Stanley and Robert Stanek; a grandson Matt Neumann; and a son-in-law Tom Loomis. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18 from 9-11 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Ruesch, pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford, officiating. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
