VULCAN- Adolph Milo “Dofo” Rossato age 86, of Vulcan, passed away on March 12, 2016, at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain. Dofo was born November 16, 1929, in Loretto, son of the late Orazio and Theresina (Mauro) Rossato. Dofo grew up in Loretto and graduated from Vulcan High School, Class of 1949. He served his country in the United States Army from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Dofo proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd Battalion, 319th Field Artillery Regiment. He trained at Fort Benning, Georgia and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Dofo made 34 parachute jumps and received his Glider wings while flying in the CG-4A Glider. Dofo was chosen as part of a select group to perform a demonstration jump for President Truman. Dofo was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Color guard and greatly enjoyed the camaraderie that marching with this select group throughout Michigan and Wisconsin brought. He married Helen Ball on August 30, 1952 at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan. Dofo worked for Chiocchi and Girard Logging, and The Groveland Mine, where he operated heavy equipment and ran the tailing operations, retiring in 1981. After retirement, Dofo served as a Norway Township Trustee for many years and served on the Dickinson County Construction Code. He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan and the Hall-DeWinter Post #145, American Legion. Dofo was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He shared his outdoor expertise with many family and friends. He enjoyed snowmobiling and his time spent in the woods of the Lower Pine Creek area. He loved spending time with family and friends and could always be found enjoying his grandchildren at area sporting events. Dofo is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen; a daughter, Cindy (Bruce) Ziller, Vulcan, two sons, Michael (Matilda) Rossato, Vulcan and Mark (Debbie) Rossato, Iron Mountain; seven Grandchildren, Jason (Summer) Ziller, Jamie (Steve) Johnson, Jessie (Dan) Skog, Christopher (Meghan) Rossato, Nicholas Rossato, Brody Rossato, Cole Rossato; Four Great Grandchildren, Hunter Ziller, Maggie Ziller, Finley Johnson, Maija Johnson; two brothers, Bernard (Beverly) Rossato, Loretto, Robert (Georgine) Rossato, Norway; Sister-in-law, Marilou Rossato, Iron Mountain; Brother-in-law Leonard (Betty) Bal; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend of the family Giacoma Bafile of Vulcan. In addition to his parents, Dofo was preceded in death by his sister Gloria, his brother Mario, brothers-in-law, John Baciak and Zygmund Zychowski, sisters-in-law, Beatrice Zychowski and Evelyn Luba. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Barbara’s Church in Vulcan. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Barbara’s Church with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis presiding. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
