NORWAY- Ann VanWolvelaere, 75, of Norway passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI. Ann was born November 21, 1945 in Marquette, MI to the late Zigmond and Elizabeth (Bernard) Shesky. Ann graduated in 1963 from Powers-Spalding High School as Valedictorian and in 1966 from St. Joe’s Nursing School in Hancock, MI. She worked as an RN at Anderson Memorial Hospital in Norway until 1982, then worked for Dr. William Gladstone as an office nurse until her retirement. Ann married William “Bill” Van Wolvelaere on August 20, 1966 and they resided in Hamilton Lakes until their move to Norway in 1973. She will be remembered as a devoted Catholic, mother, grandmother, nurse and homemaker. A member of St. Mary’s Church in Norway, Ann served as a Eucharistic minister and song leader for both St. Mary’s and St. Barbara’s Church. Ann also served as president of Anderson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, was an active member of the Jake Menghini Museum and also enjoyed entertaining at nursing homes with a group known as the Smile A Whiles. Ann enjoyed summers at the family cottage and riding on the pontoon boat, “Lady Louise.” She was an avid Sports fan following her children through high school sports and watching her beloved Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. In her downtime, she enjoyed solving cross word puzzles and card games. Ann is survived by her husband of 54 years Bill; sons Scott (Marcia) VanWolvelaere of Kingsford, and Mark (Katie) VanWolvelaere of Brookfield, WI, daughter Kris (Steve) Jensen of Quinnesec; sisters Jayne (Michael) Moran of Green Bay, WI, Renee (Peter) Anderson of Menominee and Mary Kay (Joseph) Plunger of Trempealeau, WI; brother William (Joy) Shesky of Marquette; grandchildren Kassandra White, Chelsie (Andrew Earhardt), Kevin, Porter, Riley, and Kimberly VanWolvelaere, Pamela (Andy Fleming) and Amanda Jensen, and John and Fritz Urbanek; great-grandchildren Brookelyn, Lauren, Evie, Lela, and Laura; brother-in-law Dan (Georgeanne) VanWolvelaere; and many nieces and nephews. Ann was preceded in death by grandparents Joseph and Elizabeth (Hogan) Bernard, and Antone and Constance Sheski. Special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and Munson Medical Center who cared for Ann in recent weeks and to Dr. Ann M. Gierl and Atif A. Qureshi for the ongoing medical support. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 12 from 9-10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Norway. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be held at the Norway Township Cemetery.
