Clyde Edmond Chartier

NORWAY- Clyde E. Chartier age 91 of Norway, died Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Evergreen Meadows in Norway, MI. He was born on April 20, 1926 in Niagara, the son of the late Arthur and Theresa (Vicenzi) Chartier. Clyde attended Vulcan Schools and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, honorably discharged in 1946. He married Margaret “Peggy” Harris on October 10, 1953 in Iron Mountain, at St. Mary’s St. Joseph’s Church. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2016 Clyde worked for Ford Motor Co., Lardenoit Distributing for 32 years and then for Haelterman Distributing until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed going to camp, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clyde was an active member of St. Mary’s Church; Hall-DeWinter Post #145, American Legion, Norvulet Post #4581, V.F.W., and the Knights of Columbus, Holy Spirit Council #9523. He is survived by his daughter Debbie (Jim) Burklund of Faithorn; son Mike (Diane) Chartier of Belleville; grandchildren Jaime (Jesse) Samarziya of Superior, WI, Jodi (Nate) Fales of Iron River and Todd Chartier of Willis; great grandchildren Jason and Jaclyn Samarziya and Lauren and Tessa Fales; brothers Donald (Darlene) Chartier of AZ and Marvin (Kathy) Chartier of Norway; sister-in-law LaRayne Chartier of Norway; many nieces and nephews. Clyde was preceded in death by his great granddaughter Jenna Samarziya; brother Arthur Chartier; brother-in-law Edward “Ted” Harris and sister-in-law Jean Harris. Family will greet friends on Thursday, May 18 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Norway. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Binu Joseph presiding. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
