Diane Jean Palmcook Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

NORWAY- Diane J. Palmcook age 75 of Norway, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Dickinson Co. Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, MI. She was born on February 13, 1941 in Norway, the daughter of the late Joseph and Geraldine (Cronick) Zychowski. Diane graduated from Vulcan High School in 1959, and started working at Norway Gravure for 43 years retiring from North Star Print Group in 2003. She married John “Jack” Palmcook on June 22, 1963 at St. Barbara’s Church in Vulcan. Known as Gi Gi to her many nieces and nephews, Diane's connection to them was like that of a second Mom and friend. As the "Mint Lady", Diane kept the Lions Club candies supplied to area businesses with a smile. As a partner, friend and wife to Jack for 53 years, the two enjoyed travels to visit friends and family, attending local church and community events and processing garden produce together. She felt a special connection to the Carmelites and enjoyed preparing and gathering canned goods for the Carmelite Tea. Diane is survived by her husband John; five sisters Ada Schwamlien, Rita (Edward) Rozine, Kay (Terry) Backlund, Judy (John) Opolka and Denice (Richard) Westcott; numerous nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Robert Schwamlien, Sr. Family will greet friends on Thursday, December 29, from 9-11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Norway. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis presiding. Interment will be held in the spring at the Norway Township Cemetery.
