March 19, 1936 - May 26, 2005

DONALD CASANOVA NORWAY- Donald “Cas” “Puttin” Casanova age 69 of Norway, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at his home. He was born in Norway on March 19, 1936 the son of the late Mike and Victoria (Cieslak) Casanova. Don graduated from Norway High School in 1954, a received his journeyman’s license in 1957. On August 3, 1957, he married Janet Rumpf of Kingsford at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. They made their home in Norway. Don worked at MJ Electric as an electrician / estimator for 42 years until his retirement in March 2001. In his earlier years he enjoyed sports of all kinds. He enjoyed refereeing and umpiring ballgames. His enthusiasm then changed to following his own children and grandchildren in their sporting endeavors. Don also volunteered in various capacities at St. Mary's Church in Norway, he especially liked ushering. He had previously been a member of IBEW. Don was a founding member of the Curtis Brackett Fund in Norway and served many years in various capacities on the Norway City Council. He also was an avid fisherman and hunter until he had to slow down because of a kidney transplant in 1998. Don is survived by his wife Janet of 47 years; five children Diane (Matt) Westrich of Niagara, WI., Mark (Kelly) Casanova of Norway, Bruce (Mary) Casanova of Iron Mountain, Tony (Laura) Casanova of Waucedah and Joan Casanova of Iron River. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren Corinne Westrich of Madison, Andrew, Ross, Brooke, Emily, Brenda, Brad and Kayte Casanova, Paul and Erin Angeli; brother and friend Roger (Judy) Casanova of Norway; mother in-law Edith Rumpf of Kingsford; sister-in-law Norma (Joe) Deyaert of Iron Mountain; brother-in-law Ron (Kathy) Rumpf of New Holstein, WI; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Wallace Casanova and father-in-law Eugene Rumpf. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church Hall in Norway. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, with Fr. Mark McQuesten presiding. Interment will be at the Norway Township Cemetery. The family request that in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan or the Curtis Brackett Fund. Arrangements were made with the Miner-Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
