Roland J. PeriPoli Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

ROLAND PERIPOLI NORWAY- Roland Joseph PeriPoli age 85 of Norway was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain, Michigan, with family at his side. He was born in Vulcan on March 2, 1923 the son of the late Emilio and Valeria (Lovato) PeriPoli. Roland served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, 1943-1946, as a MP. He married the lovely Lorraine Marie Mendini on July 16, 1949. Roland then worked at Joe Lori’s Store in Norway where he met Lorraine. He then worked at the Norway-Vulcan School as a Custodian. He was a member of the Norvulet Post #4581, V.F.W. and the Disabled American Vets. He served on the Norway City Council for several years. Roland was especially known to the community as being the back gatekeeper at the Dickinson County Fairgrounds for 31 years. Roland’s most special times were those spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. Especially the weekly Sunday dinners with family at his home. Roland was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to be out at camp. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. He was extremely proud of his garden and was admired by all for his ability to keep it “weed free”. He was a wonderful man, husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Roland is survived by his wife Lorraine; daughters Linda (Bruce) Strauss of Vulcan, Judy (John) Nelson of Waucedah, Bonnie (Gary) Moore of Aurora, WI; grandchildren Tammy Mattson, Bruce (Robin) Strauss, Shannon (Tom) Harder, Sarah (Vern) Kirschner, John, Charity, Jesse, Holly, Casey, Katy and Jill Nelson, Joseph Moore, Carrie (Kevin) Woulf, Andy (Hilary Hull) Moore and Josh Moore; great grandchildren Nikki (Dean) Dennocenzo, Alex McDermott, Tucker Mattson, Jacy and Jacob Strauss, Matthew, Kacie, Justin and Jordan Harder, Owen Woulf and Alison Moore; sister Angeline (Hank) Johnson; brother-in-law Calvin Mendini; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends Robert “Cubby” Martignon, Ray and Mindy Pilon, Ann Giuliani, Heather Garrand and Christina Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his three sisters Carmella Plourde, Sally PeriPoli and Mary Backland and his brother Mario “Pepsi” PeriPoli. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2008 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Barbara's Church in Vulcan. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Barbara's Church with Fr. James Roetzer, presiding. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
