STEVEN STEENO NORWAY- At the age of 65, Steven Steeno, finished the race and won the ultimate prize. The Lord graciously called him home to be with him on Monday, June 2nd ending his courageous battle with cancer. He was lovingly cared for until his homecoming by family, friends and former coworkers of the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. Steve will be remembered by many as an avid runner clocking many miles on the roads throughout the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin. He competed in countless races and also enjoyed biking and swimming. He was able to continue his passion for the sport, after his cancer diagnosis, thanks to his VA family who provided him with a recumbent bike. Steve will be remembered by his close family and friends as a faithful follower of the Lord. While living in Iron Mountain, Steve was a member of American Martyrs Parish in Kingsford before returning to Norway and joining St. Mary's Parish. He furthered his faith journey by making his cursillo at Mary Grove Catholic Retreat Center. Steve was born in Norway on September 5, 1948, he graduate from Norway High School in 1966. He attended Michigan State University before leaving to join the Army. Steve served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He returned to the area and was employed by Norway Gravure before joining the VA Hospital System where he was employed until his retirement in 2010. Steve is survived by his caregiver and sister, Kathy (Wally) Zychowski, Nieces Jodie (Jeff) Gilroy, Jamie (Mark) Dube and Nephew and Godson Rob (Stephanie) Zychowski. He will be also be keeping a special eye from heaven on his great nieces and nephew Mackenzie & Myah Gilroy and Emma & Eli Dube and soon to be new addition Baby Zychowski. He will be greatly missed by his family who shared countless Sunday meals with him and will need to find a replacement to finish the last of the dessert. Steve also leaves behind an extended family of Aunts, Uncles and cousins including his close cousin and friend Mike Steeno in whom he shared and made a lifetime of memories. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Anne Steeno. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Norway. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis presiding. Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery. Family requests that donations may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic School or the Oscar G. Johnson Butterfly Wish program.
