Clayton E. Lounds

NORWAY- Clayton Emory Lounds age 82 of Norway, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, MI. He was born August 8, 1931 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI the son of the late William and Eva (Longhurst) Lounds. Clayton graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School in 1950. He married Edna Downs on August 19, 1950 in Sault Ste. Marie just prior to shipping out for Korea, serving his country in the Michigan National Guard in the 1437th Engineer Co. Clayton returned from Korea on March 28, 1952. Edna preceded him in death on August 2, 1993. Clayton had attended and helped in the building of Grace United Methodist Church in Norway. He was a member of Norvulet Post #4581, V.F.W. and the Hall-DeWinter Post #145, American Legion. Clayton was also member of the Loyal order of Moose, #1474, which he was honored with “This Is Your Night” on February 7, 1998. He worked for Northland Grocers, starting in Sault Ste. Marie in 1954 and retiring in Norway in 1990. A life member of North American Hunting Club and a member of Superior SAMS Chapter of Good SAM Club from 1994-2010. Clayton is survived by his sons Randy Lounds, Steven (Pam) Lounds, Michael (Rochelle Toll) Lounds and Kevin (Nancy) Lounds; daughter Gloria (Max) David; grandchildren Matthew (Heather) Lounds, Melissa and Stephanie Lounds, Marty Westberg, James and Kellie Lounds, Cynnamon Dill, and Thomas Ray Harder; great grandchildren Nolan and Alice Lounds, Kolby and Kaydence David, Colton and Clare Wallace, Matthew, Kacie, Jordan and Justin Harder; one great great granddaughter Myah Zeugher; brother Dwaine Lounds; sister Laura O’Dell; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Edna, his parents, brothers M. Jerry and Kenneth Lounds and sisters Myrna Walsh and Gloria Lounds. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12 from 2-4 p.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Michael J. Langlais, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be held at the Norway Township Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Norvulet Post #4581, V.F.W. , the Hall-DeWinter Post #145, American Legion or to the American Cancer Society.
