Leona Carlson

LEONA CARLSON NORWAY – Leona A. Carlson, 84 years old, of Norway, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Dickinson Co. Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. She was born September 12, 1919 in Vulcan, the daughter of the late Adelor and Margaret (Rochon) Brin. Leona graduated from Vulcan High School in 1937. She worked at several jobs, including GAF, Ben Franklin, Vertins, retiring in 1982 from her job as payroll clerk and cashier for the City of Norway. She married Louis L. Bertoline February 22, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1944 when he was killed in action in France during World War II. She then married C. M. “Cap” Carlson on February 7, 1948 and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1981. Leona was an active member of St. Mary’s Church of Norway where she served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister, Ministry of Praise, Secretary of Liturgy Committee, Visitation Captain, the Women of St. Mary’s, Daughters of Isabella and the Legion of Mary. She loved to cook for her family and her hobbies were reading, doing crossword puzzles and being an avid Packer fan. Survivors include a daughter, JoAnne (Ken) Rohde of Norway; grandchildren Dale (Bonnie) Larsen, Tony (MaryLou) Larsen, David Larsen and Larry (Nancy) Larsen, Cynthia (Larry) Butsic, Paula (Jim) Ebli, Patti (Mike Olson) Mattson, Mark (Janet) Bray, Mary Jo (Pete) Malaney, Kim (Diane Marchetti) Bray and Tracey (Chris) Nunez; 16 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson; sister-in-law, Caroline Bertoline of Norway; several nieces and nephews; special friend Bruce Larsen. She was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in law Marianne and LeRoy Mattson; three sisters, Stella Kahrs, Alice Bott and Charlotte Waskow; two brothers, Joseph and Clifford Brin Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Miner Funeral Home in Norway. Parish prayers will be held at 4:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Prayers will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Miner Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church in Norway by Fr. Mark McQuesten, Fr. Lee Kahrs and Fr. Ben Paris. Interment will follow in the Norway Township Cemetery.
